Nullsoft have quietly released an update to their ubiquitous media player. Winamp 5.03c is a functional, versatile, feature-rich media player with support for a vast array of audio and video formats. This application boasts support for visualisations, "Modern" skinning, limited CD burning and ripping (unlimited in the Pro version), a comprehensive Media Library and an integrated internet radio and TV tuner. Winamp 5 has built on the success of its predecessors to maintain its title of premier media player.

An extensive number of plug-ins can be downloaded to further enhance Winamp 5. Plug-ins are which add support for more languages, file transfer to portable music devices (such as iPod) and new file formats are available. Visualisations, AVS presets and even games have been released as plug-ins. There is also a large collection of skins to choose from.

This release includes an eMusic trial, which allows you to download 50 mp3s for free. See here for more information. Winamp 5 comes in three versions: Full, Lite and Bundle. The Bundle version includes the an mp3 of "Still In Love Song" by The Stills, in addition to the Full version's feature set. The list below includes in brackets which versions of Winamp a particular feature is available.

Winamp 5 (2+3, get it?) also comes in a Pro version which features mp3 encoding and unrestricted CD ripping and burning (up to 48x) at a cost of $14.95.

there's certainly enough new features in this release to convince me to upgrade. it's nice to see the application that somewhat ushered in the digital music era, has changed with the times. offering trials of legal downloading services and such. :)

I actually have that version... downloaded it coz I wanted winamp instead og windows media thing... although....I don't think i'm 'worthy' having it LOL... admitted, it looks fancy, but I really don't need all the other stuff :giggle: :)

wA 2.9 is the one I use too. I tried QCD for some time, it has some things that work faster than in winamp, but later got back to good ol' WA.

2.x was a great player, agreed, but WA 5 takes the goodness and reliability of 2.x and puts it in 5, i really cant tellmuch of a difference between 5.03a/b/c but oh well, ill stick with the latest in case i miss something. plus one advantage winamp 5 has over 2.x, MMD3, the only skin ill use

ew iTunes licks. wa3 is WAY better and the milkdrop vis is amazing.
oh and real media is the worst format for anything nowadays....*buffering*.... it real-*buffering*-ly sucks.
